Dashwood - The Past & The Future

Summer Farewell Party

We were thrilled to welcome over 200 people on Friday 11th July for a party to mark Dashwood's move from its old building in Marlborough Place. Former pupils and staff joined head teachers representing the last 40 years – going as far back as Mr Ernie Underwood (head 1968-80) who is now 92 years old. Fred Riches (head 1980-1998) was also there, plus Miss Julia Scroxton, who was deputy head for many years.

Head teacher Jane Brookes launched the party, along with Mayor Ann Bonner who gave a speech about the school's 106-year history. Current Dashwood families were fascinated to find out that there had been a chilly outdoor swimming pool, ice-slides in snowy weather, and that in the early days the whole school used to skip between their lessons, accompanied by the piano.

A book will shortly be produced about Dashwood's history. Please email rebecca@mileham.net or contact Rebecca Mileham on 01295 268328 for more details.
